Lakeland Bank Employee Donations Help American Heart Association

Jeans on Friday Program Raised $3,000 to Combat Cardiovascular Disease
OAK RIDGE, N.J., May 10, 2011 — Community-minded employees at Lakeland Bank donated $3,053 to the American Heart Association in six New Jersey counties to help in the fight against heart disease. The employees, who each donated a minimum of $10 for the privilege of wearing jeans on Friday, chose the American Heart Association to help education and research efforts around heart disease, the number one killer for men and women.
“We are honored and pleased to help the American Heart Association, which fulfills a vital need for our community,” stated Thomas J. Shara, president and chief executive officer of Lakeland Bank. “Through their education and research, they help to save lives. Our employees’ donation is a prime example of the bank’s corporate culture, which encourages support of essential service organizations that strengthen our community and improve our lives.”
The donation will be sent to American Heart Association offices in Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren counties. The funds will be used to help the American Heart Association in its mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease.
“We’re so grateful for the support,” said Tonya Addy, executive director, American Heart Association, Tri-County New York Region. “It is because of organizations like Lakeland Bank that we can continue to do the work we do in our community and throughout the country.”
The American Heart Association’s goal is to improve the cardiovascular health for all Americans by 20 percent by 2020, according to Addy. “We’re really focusing on education efforts,” she said, “to help people make good choices: eating well, exercising, not smoking, and screening for signs of heart disease. Together, we can make a difference.”
