Lakeland Bank Hosts Golf Outing for Sussex County Charities
$40,000 will support 18 local nonprofit organizations
Oak Ridge, N.J., JULY 3, 2012 – Lakeland Bank has hosted the Sussex County Golf Classic for 31 years to support not-for-profit organizations that serve the County and surrounding communities.
“I’ve been working the Golf Classic for 21 years, and every year it is a pleasure to see our long-time supporters as well as new friends who have joined Lakeland Bank in supporting the community, said Robert Vandenbergh, chief operating officer of Lakeland Bank. “Lakeland Bank is proud of this long-standing company tradition, but I am especially proud of my colleagues who volunteer to work at the Golf Classic to help make it such a great success.”
More than $40,000 was raised at the all day outing where more than 200 golfers enjoyed either a morning or afternoon shotgun start followed by dinner and awards. The Golf Classic was held on June 19 at the Newton Country Club, a private 18-hole course in Newton, N.J.
The Sussex County YMCA is one of the organizations that benefits from the event and was represented by staff members David Carcieri, Jennifer Gardner, board member Lisa Pompey Smith and volunteer Steve Danner. “The support the Y receives from the Sussex County Golf Classic is a tremendous help for getting our programs out into the community,” said Carcieri, executive director. “For instance, this year we introduced SPLASH (Swim, Play, and Learn Aquatic Safety Habits), a safety initiative designed to educate young people about ways to remain safe in and around the water. Our staff visited nine local elementary schools to perform skits emphasizing prudent ways to enjoy summer activities. We reached more than 1,000 students through this program.”
The proceeds from the 2012 Sussex County Golf Classic will also benefit the following nonprofit organizations:
Camp Nejeda, CASA of Sussex & Morris County, Center for Prevention and Counseling, Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., Freedom House, Ginnie’s House, Homestead Life Enrichment Foundation, Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation, K.E.E.P., Inc., Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County, Norwescap, Pass It Along, Project Self Sufficiency, Samaritan Inn, SCARC Foundation, Senior Quality of Life Foundation, Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council.
