Women of Achievementprogramrecognizes positive role models
OAK RIDGE, N.J., May 1, 2018 — Lakeland Bank is pleased to announce that Mary Ann Deacon, Chairman of Lakeland Bank, has been named one of the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey’s 2018 Women of Achievement honorees. The award program was held April 12 at the Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park to honor five individuals from the local community who exemplify the values of Girl Scouting.
“Mary Ann was the first female director to join the Lakeland Board, and became the Bank’s first female Chairman in 2011. Her extensive experience in real estate development, construction, property management and sales, has provided strong leadership to our senior management team and board,” said Thomas J. Shara, President and CEO. “On behalf of the Lakeland board of directors and all of our colleagues, we would like to thank Mary Ann for her leadership and congratulate her as she is recognized as a positive role model for young women.”
The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey’s Women of Achievement event honors individuals from local communities who have made outstanding contributions in their careers or personal lives, who serve as positive role models for young women, and who exemplify the values of Girl Scouting. This year’s theme was Invest in the Power of G.I.R.L., and those being honored emulate the G.I.R.L.TM (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader) qualities the organization strives to nurture in every Girl Scout as they build a better world for all.
“To be recognized by the Girl Scouts as a role model for the young women in our community is truly gratifying to me, especially since I am a former Girl Scout,” said Deacon. “Ensuring that girls have access to organizations such as the Girl Scouts to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to become our future leaders is so important.”
Proceeds from Women of Achievement provide financial assistance to girls in need who, without help would not receive the benefits of Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey serves girls ages 5-18 in 160 municipalities in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren counties. To learn more, visit www.gsnnj.org.
